La Torre de Esteban Hambrán
Village
La Torre de Esteban Hambrán is a municipality in the Torrijos comarca, in Toledo, with 1,946 inhabitants. Its name refers to an old Muslim tower that communicated by fire signals with the castillo de Alamín and that in the 13th century is said to have belonged to a Mozarab named Esteban Ambrán, around which the area was repopulated after the Reconquest. In the early 15th century it was the lordship of Pedro López de Ayala; it was sold in 1436 to Álvaro de Luna, passed after his fall to the Crown and then to the Mendoza family, until in 1568 Pedro González de Mendoza sold it to Diego de Vargas, secretary to Philip II. It belonged to Guadalajara until the provincial division of 1833. It preserves the parish church of Santa María Magdalena, accompanied by the ermitas of Santa Ana and San Roque.
