What to see and do in Villasequilla

Villasequilla
Village
Villasequilla, in the comarca of Mesa de Ocaña, province of Toledo, sits on the Toledo plateau, in the middle valley of the Tagus, and today has 2673 inhabitants. Its origins lie in the hamlets of Artal and La Mezquita, settled by Castilians, Mozarabs and Mudejars, which by 1154 already appear cited as Villaseca en Valdecarábanos, the municipality's original name. It belonged to the archiepiscopal see of Toledo until Yepes bought its temporal jurisdiction in 1573, on which it depended as Villasequilla de Yepes until a royal decree gave it independence in 1817. Its landmark monument is the parish church of Santa María Magdalena, whose feast is celebrated on 22 July. Across its municipal area stretches the La Pineda pine forest, listed as a public-utility woodland.
