What to see and do in Puerto de San Vicente

Puerto de San Vicente
Village
Puerto de San Vicente is a municipality in the comarca of La Jara, in the province of Toledo, with 141 inhabitants (INE 2025), bordering Alía, already in the province of Cáceres, and Mohedas de la Jara, El Campillo de la Jara and Sevilleja de la Jara. It owes its name to the mountain pass on which it stands, at over 800 metres above sea level, and to the dedication to San Vicente Mártir, whose temple, according to historical studies, already existed in Visigothic times and may have been at the origin of the settlement; the area was also crossed by an old Roman road used in the Middle Ages, especially as the monastery of Guadalupe was gaining renown. Its patronal festivities, the most crowded event of the local summer, are held on 24 August in honour of San Bartolomé.
The Mountain Pass That Gave the Village Its Name
Curiosity
The municipality owes its name to the mountain pass on which it sits, at 807 metres above sea level, and to the dedication to Saint Vincent Martyr. It is believed that in Visigothic times there was a church dedicated to this saint, rebuilt during the Middle Ages, which may have given rise to the settlement itself.

Monument
Historical studies point to the existence of a temple dedicated to Saint Vincent as early as Visigothic times, which would have been at the origin of the settlement. The municipality's article adds that this temple would have been rebuilt during the Middle Ages.
