La Mierla
Village
La Mierla is a municipality of the northern sierra of Guadalajara, at 957 metres of altitude, on a small plain between the Jarama and Sorbe rivers, near a medieval fountain and the hermitage of la Soledad. Its origin goes back to a presura from the end of the 11th century; it belonged to the Común de Atienza and later to the lordship of Beleña, until in 1625 it became independent and received the privilege of villazgo, recalled today by the picota (pillory) in the square. It has 44 registered inhabitants (INE 2025), although the depopulation of the 1960s left barely a dozen permanent residents and festivities such as the botarga were lost. It preserves the church of la Asunción and celebrates its patronal festivities on 15 August and the pilgrimage of its patron saint, the Virgen de Peñamira, on the last Saturday of May.
