Church of San Pedro de Yunquera de Henares
Monument
A church built in stages: the 16th-century tower, in late Gothic style, was begun by Martín de Regil in 1520 and Pedro de Medina in 1539, and in 1634 Fray Alberto de la Madre de Dios added the Baroque transept.
Station of Yunquera de Henares
Monument
The Yunquera de Henares station is a halt on the Madrid-Barcelona line, at kilometre point 68.5, between the stations of Fontanar and Maluque. It was opened on 5 October 1860 by the MZA company, with the opening of the Guadalajara-Jadraque section. After the nationalisation of the railway in 1941 it passed to RENFE; today Adif manages the infrastructure and Renfe Operadora provides the service since 2005. The single-storey passenger building shows on its main façade seven openings arranged in three arches, serving as entrances and windows, with a small roof covering part of the side platform. It has two platforms and five tracks, and offers Medium Distance services to Madrid, Guadalajara, Sigüenza, Zaragoza, Lérida and Barcelona, besides logistics functions.

The added name of Henares
Curiosity
Until the reform of municipal nomenclature in 1916, the village was simply called Yunquera; it was then that the surname of Henares was added. The change was approved by royal decree, published in the Gaceta de Madrid of 2 July that year, which changed the name of 573 Spanish municipalities at once to avoid confusion between repeated place names. The new surname refers to the Henares river, in whose valley the town lies.
Pickled quail
Food and drink
The cereal-growing countryside is small game country, and the quail is preserved in a marinade of vinegar, bay leaf and pepper to be eaten cold. It is also prepared in salad or stuffed, and it appears on the menus of the roasting houses of the Henares plain.
