The added name of Henares Curiosity · Yunquera de Henares, La Campiña, Guadalajara Image of Yunquera de Henares, not of the place itself. Until the reform of municipal nomenclature in 1916, the village was simply called Yunquera; it was then that the surname of Henares was added. The change was approved by royal decree, published in the Gaceta de Madrid of 2 July that year, which changed the name of 573 Spanish municipalities at once to avoid confusion between repeated place names. The new surname refers to the Henares river, in whose valley the town lies. Photo: LBM1948 (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Yunquera de Henares
