What to see and do in El Cubillo de Uceda

El Cubillo de Uceda
Village
Municipality of the comarca of La Campiña, in the province of Guadalajara, which was called simply El Cubillo until the reform of municipal nomenclature in 1916; its church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción combines a Plateresque doorway, a Mudéjar brick apse of semicircular profile and Romanesque elements in its fabric, and in 2011 the process for its protection as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) was begun.
Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de El Cubillo de Uceda
Monument
Catholic church built between the late 12th and early 13th centuries and remodelled in the 16th, with a rectangular floor plan, three naves, apse, presbytery, sacristy and tower, raised in rubble masonry with ashlar at the corners and brick on the apse and tower. It preserves a Mudéjar brick apse with a semicircular profile, one of the few examples of this type in the province of Guadalajara, with two superimposed bands of blind arches; on the west façade stands out the Plateresque doorway of the Toledo school, from the first half of the 16th century, with a decorated frieze and a niche holding the carving of San Miguel, and inside, the Mudéjar par-and-nudillo coffered ceiling covering the central nave. In 2011 its protection dossier as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) was opened.
