What to see and do in Torremocha de Jarama

Torremocha de Jarama
Village
Torremocha de Jarama, on the banks of the Jarama and on the border with the province of Guadalajara, has about 1,157 inhabitants. In the Middle Ages it was barely a handful of houses around a 13th-century hermitage and the tower of an old fortress; in the 14th century it formed its own municipality and gained population, and in 1556 the hermitage was transformed into the present church of San Pedro Apóstol. In 1812 it became independent from the Duchy of Uceda. Traditionally devoted to grain, vineyards and olive groves, it now stands out for its dense network of nearly seventy small craft and agri-food businesses, with a ratio of one business per ten inhabitants unusual for the area. In the village's old flour mill, the television programme Bake Off España was filmed.
