Fresneda de la Sierra
Village
Fresneda de la Sierra is a municipality in the comarca of Serranía Media-Campichuelo y Serranía Baja, in the province of Cuenca, at an altitude of 993 metres, near the Serranía de Cuenca natural park. Its name alludes to the ash trees (fresnos) that populated the area, with the addition "de la Sierra" for the region; its first settlements date from the 12th century, when Christians from the Molina plateau arrived during the repopulation. It preserves the ruins of the church of San Miguel Arcángel, patron saint of the town, and in its municipal area springs and waterfalls abound, such as that of the Peña del Cagurrial. On 3 February it celebrates San Blas with a great bonfire kept burning until nightfall, a mass and the distribution of bread rolls, and on 29 September, San Miguel Arcángel. It has 42 inhabitants.
