What to see and do in Albalate de las Nogueras

Albalate de las Nogueras
Village
Albalate de las Nogueras is a municipality in La Alcarria Conquense, in Cuenca, with 261 inhabitants (INE 2025); in the mid-19th century it had 875, according to Pascual Madoz. Its town centre sits at 855 metres above sea level between the Albalate and Trabaque rivers. It preserves traditional cave cellars, such as those of La Tercia and El Carril, where artisan wine is still made, in a village with a winemaking tradition whose economy is based on cereal farming, chiefly barley, and to a lesser extent on sheep farming. Its festive calendar is spread across San Blas on 3 February, San Isidro on 15 May, Santa Quiteria on 22 May, San Pedro on 29 June and the Virgen del Rosario on the last weekend of August.

Nature
Albalate de las Nogueras, in the Alcarria Conquense (Cuenca), sits at 855 metres of altitude atop a hill, at the foot of a sierra, between the Albalate and Trabaque rivers; the latter carves a gorge that surrounds the hamlet in a semicircle before continuing its course eastward. The municipal area alternates rocky and scrubland areas with vegas and plains of varied vegetation, among which leafy walnut trees stand out, along with small market gardens irrigated by the rivers' waters. Small game hunting of partridges, hares and rabbits is scarce due to the lack of scrubland.
