Masegosa
Village
A municipality in the Serranía Alta district, in the province of Cuenca, located at 1,376 meters of altitude and 88 kilometers from the provincial capital, near the source of the river Cuervo, 2 kilometers from Lagunaseca and 7 from Beteta. It is a remote place, whose municipal area, of pine forests and rocky outcrops, contains karst cavities such as the cueva de los Griegos and the cueva de los Mosquitos, in addition to the Cueva del Hierro. Its inhabitants have traditionally worked as shepherds; in the 1950s it reached 432 inhabitants, but the rural exodus of the 1970s drastically reduced its population, today 58 inhabitants (INE, 2025). Deer, wild boar, fallow deer and roe deer are common in its mountains, and near the village there is a lagoon known as las lagunillas.
