What to see and do in Poveda de la Sierra

Poveda de la Sierra
Village
A municipality of the Señorío de Molina, in the province of Guadalajara, bordering the Alto Tajo Natural Park, at whose south-eastern end is the salto de Poveda, an old abandoned dam where the water falls in a cascade onto the Tajo. Until the 12th century it belonged to the Común de Villa y Tierra de Cuenca and afterwards to the sexmo de la Sierra of the Señorío de Molina. Its church of San Pedro, in the rural style of the 16th century, preserves the triangular bell-gable and a semicircular arched doorway with three archivolts and capitals decorated with fantastical animals. The Fiesta de los Gancheros, on the first weekend of September, recalls, together with other towns of the Alto Tajo, the trade of the log-raft drivers, to whom a statue was dedicated at the entrance in 2007. It has 99 inhabitants (INE, 2025).
