La Alberca de Záncara
Village
La Alberca de Záncara is a municipality in the La Mancha Conquense district, in the province of Cuenca, with 1,504 inhabitants (INE 2025), situated east of the río Záncara, from which it takes the second part of its name; until 1916 the municipality was called simply La Alberca. Its church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, from the 15th and 16th centuries, is in late Gothic style transitioning to the Renaissance, and its tower, from 1580, is the work of Juan de Zaldívar; it also preserves the baroque convent of the Discalced Carmelites, built over an old chapel of Santa Ana. On 3 May the Cruz de Mayo is celebrated, with a procession of San Isidro, and from 13 to 18 September the fair in honour of the patron saint, the Santa Cruz, with festivities of Moors and Christians.
