What to see and do in Alcantud

Alcantud
Village
Alcantud is a municipality in the district of La Alcarria Conquense, in the province of Cuenca, with 59 inhabitants (INE 2025), located beside the Guadiela river, about 5 kilometres from the Alcantud river and 6 from Vindel and Arandilla del Arroyo, at 851 metres above sea level. Its oldest remains are Roman ruins close to the village, and its territory preserves former thermal baths. Its main monument is the church of Nuestra Señora de los Afligidos, from the late 12th or early 13th century. The festivities of the patron saint, on the second Sunday of May, begin with the singing of the mayos at midnight, followed by a procession, the auctioning of the float carried by Jesús Alique, communal meals in the square and the traditional game of billa.
