What to see and do in El Recuenco

El Recuenco
Village
A municipality of the district of the Señorío de Molina, in Guadalajara, set on a páramo at about 1,200 m of altitude between the Serranía de Cuenca, the Alcarria and the Alto Tajo; it now has 80 inhabitants. The land, covered with pine wood and Portuguese oak, is surrounded by ravines that flow into the Guadiela river. Fossils of Plio-Pleistocene vertebrates, graves that could be Visigothic from the 3rd-4th centuries, and the ruins of the so-called Poblado de Santa Cruz, of probable Iberian origin, have been found within its territory. During the First Carlist War it was held by the Carlists, and in the 19th century it maintained glass factories and looms alongside rain-fed agriculture and livestock farming.
