What to see and do in La Zaida

La Zaida
Village
La Zaida is a municipality of the Ribera Baja del Ebro, in the province of Zaragoza, with 433 inhabitants and an area of 21.36 km². Its name comes from the Arabic zayda, a toponymised form of the proper name Zayd, also present in other Aragonese place names such as Calaceite or Zaidín; some historians link it to the presence of the Zaydi Shia minority in the districts east of the ancient Saraqusta. The Camino Jacobeo del Ebro passes through its territory, and towards the Monegros stretch dry farmlands where flocks of rasa aragonesa sheep graze, covered by the Ternasco de Aragón Protected Geographical Indication. The village celebrates its festivities in honour of Santa Águeda on 5 February, San Roque on 16 August and Santa Bárbara on the fourth Sunday of Advent.
Ebro Way of Saint James
Activity
The Jacobean Way of the Ebro, officially identified as ES14a, is a 452-kilometre pilgrimage route linking the villages of the Ribera Baja del Ebro and the Bajo Aragón-Caspe with the Way of St James. It starts at San Carlos de la Rápita, next to the mouth of the Ebro in Tarragona, and follows the river upstream largely along the route of the GR-99 as far as Logroño, where it connects with the French Way. It largely follows the old Roman road Ab Asturica Terracone, which became a pilgrimage route from the mid-12th century, after the Christian reconquest of Zaragoza in 1118 and of Tortosa in 1149. It crosses Tarragona, Aragon, Navarre and La Rioja over flat, well-signposted terrain, suitable for cycling.
