What to see and do in Alborge

Alborge
Village
Alborge is a municipality of 104 inhabitants (INE 2025) in the Ribera Baja del Ebro, in the province of Zaragoza, situated on the left bank of the river Ebro. Its name comes from the Arabic al-burj, 'the defensive tower'. It shares with neighbouring Alforque a mudéjar complex of castle and oil mills, a testimony to an agricultural past in which the almond tree accompanies the olive tree on dry farmland and supplies the raw material for guirlache, the hard nougat prepared for Christmas. Its main festivities are the pilgrimage to the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Montler, on 29 April, and the festivity of San Lorenzo, on 10 August.

Almond and guirlache
Food and drink
The almond tree shares the dry farmland with the olive throughout the lower riverbank. With toasted almond and caramel the guirlache is made, the traditional Aragonese hard turrón that is prepared at home for Christmas and sold at the fairs of the comarca.
