Bueña
Village
Bueña is a municipality in the Jiloca comarca, in the province of Teruel, situated in the Sierra de Lidón, within the Iberian System, at 1,213 metres above sea level and 61 kilometres from the provincial capital. A border land since the Reconquest, in 1363 it suffered a Castilian attack in which its mayor, Martín Martínez de Gombalde, refused to hand over the castle to the invaders, a gesture of loyalty to the Crown of Aragon that cost the lives of his sons Andrés and Martín. From the old 12th-century castle, two stretches of wall and a tower survive. Its parish church of Our Lady of the Assumption was rebuilt in 1703 under the direction of the master builder Miguel Tena, and the village also has the hermitage of San Vicente Mártir, from 1699. In the mid-19th century it had 152 inhabitants; today it has 65.
