What to see and do in Blesa

Blesa
Village
Blesa is a municipality of the Cuencas Mineras, in the province of Teruel, situated on the foothills of the Iberian System, at 771 metres above sea level. Reconquered from the Muslims in the 12th century, its castle was incorporated into the Crown of Aragon in 1430 by order of Alfonso V. Its church of the Santa Cruz, from the 18th century, completed its baroque tower in 1916 and preserves old burials and a chapel dedicated to Santa Ana; for centuries it also kept the panels of a 15th-century Gothic altarpiece, now in the Museum of Zaragoza. It also preserves three ashlar weirs on the río Aguasvivas —the Hocino, the del Vado and the Galindo—, two flour mills and a carpentry and forge museum opened in 2004. It has 74 inhabitants.
Church of Blesa
Monument
Church of la Santa Cruz, a dedication it has held since the Middle Ages even though the present building was raised in the second half of the 18th century. The original altarpiece, painted between 1483 and 1487 by Martín Bernat and Miguel Jiménez, narrated the Invention and Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
Festivities of Blesa
Activity
Blesa celebrates several festivities throughout the year: on 17 January in honor of San Antón, protector of animals; on the first Saturday of May, a pilgrimage to the hermitage of the Virgen de la Aliaga; on 15 May, San Isidro; and on 26 July, Santa Ana.
Honey and almond mostillo
Food and drink
Dessert made by boiling honey water or grape must with fruit and almond until it thickens. It was prepared after the grape harvest to make use of the leftover must and is preserved as a home-made sweet of the autumn festivities.
