What to see and do in Rillo

Rillo
Village
Rillo is a municipality of Comunidad de Teruel, in the Altiplano association of municipalities, located at an altitude of 1,269 metres, near Pancrudo and Fuentes Calientes. In the mid-19th century it had 232 inhabitants, according to Pascual Madoz; today it has 95. Traditionally devoted to agriculture and livestock farming — and in the past also to mining — it celebrates its main festival on the third weekend of August in honour of Santo Domingo de Silos, to whom its 18th-century church is dedicated. It also preserves the hermitages of Santa Bárbara and the Virgen de la Rosa, and sculptures by the local artist Mari Carmen Escriche Balfagón, such as the Monumento a los que duermen. The association El Pucherrillo works to recover the region's own culinary and cultural traditions.
Church of Rillo
Monument
Parish church of Santo Domingo de Silos, in Rillo (Community of Teruel), built in the second half of the 18th century. Its portal, of grey limestone and white marble, shows Baroque features of the Serlian type. The tower has three tiers: a lower square one in masonry and two upper ones in brick, one square with curved corners and the other octagonal. The interior is organised into three naves of four bays, with vaults that become increasingly elliptical towards the chancel and barrel vaults in the side naves.
