What to see and do in Escorihuela

Escorihuela
Village
Escorihuela is a small municipality of Comunidad de Teruel, with 130 inhabitants (INE 2025), about 30 kilometres from the capital. Its most significant historical event is the Sentencia de Escorihuela of 1277, the origin of its municipal independence. The surrounding hillsides are covered with espliego, wild lavender that grows above 1000 metres; its harvesting and distillation are shown at the Centro de Interpretación del Espliego, with a demonstration area and a recreation of the municipality's fossil dunes. In August the Jornadas del Espliego are held. On its mountain pastures the black-eyed Teruel sheep (oveja ojinegra) is also raised, protected by the geographical indication of the ternasco de Aragón, and among its heritage the church of the Inmaculada Concepción and the Monumento al Espigolero stand out.
