What to see and do in Torres de Barbués

Torres de Barbués
Village
Torres de Barbués is a municipality of 271 inhabitants in the comarca of Los Monegros, in the Ebro depression known as the Llanos de la Violada, at 345 metres above sea level and 23 kilometres south of Huesca; the river Flumen runs a few metres north of the church. In the mid-19th century it was a hamlet of barely 105 inhabitants dependent on Barbués, and under Franco's regime, during the colonisation of Los Monegros, the new settlement of Valfonda de Santa Ana was created within its municipal area. It preserves the Baroque church of San Pedro, from the 17th century, with a single nave and barrel vaults, whose 19th-century bell tower, restored in 2011, collapsed in the early hours of 21 April 2017 without causing any injuries. The festivals are celebrated on 29 June in Torres and on 26 July in Valfonda.
Church of Torres de Barbués
Monument
The church of San Pedro de Torres de Barbués is a Baroque-style building constructed in the 17th century and later remodelled. It has a single nave of five bays, covered by a lunette barrel vault on transverse arches resting on pillars, between which open chapels with segmental barrel vaults. The bell tower, rectangular in plan and with three tiers of ashlar and brick, was built at the end of the 19th century and was restored and reopened on 17 December 2011; it collapsed again on 21 April 2017, without causing injuries.
