What to see and do in Barbués

Barbués
Village
Barbués is a municipality of Huesca province, in the comarca of Los Monegros, with an area of 19.59 square kilometres. The settlement formed beside the castle from the inhabitants of Pitiellas, who emigrated after a plague epidemic; the fortress paid tithes to Sancho Ramírez and eventually became Church property, until around 1940 it passed into private hands and came to house the village bar, dance hall and shop. It is an atypical 16th-century castle, in a style between Romanesque and Moorish owing to its abundance of arches, with a pentagonal plan and a central courtyard of stables, today privately owned and well preserved. The village also has the church of la Asunción, likewise from the 16th century. It has 97 inhabitants.
