What to see and do in Castejón de Monegros

Castejón de Monegros
Village
Castejón de Monegros is a municipality of Huesca province, in the comarca of Los Monegros, situated at the foot of the last eastern foothills of the sierra de Alcubierre. Separated from the jurisdiction of Sariñena between the 14th and 15th centuries, it now has 459 inhabitants. It preserves a medieval castle converted into the hermitage of San Sebastián and San Fabián, and the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Lumbre, Gothic-Cistercian, with a 15th-century main altarpiece by Miguel Ximénez, partially destroyed during the Civil War and restored. There is also a hermitage dedicated to Santa Ana, with rebuilding work up to the 18th century. The main festival, on 26 July, honours Santa Ana with the gaita de boto and a dance performed only by women.
