What to see and do in Sena

Sena
Village
Sena is a municipality in the comarca of Los Monegros, in the province of Huesca, at 221 metres above sea level, with 490 inhabitants. It is known for the abundance of prehistoric sites in its municipal area, ranging from the Lower Palaeolithic, with discoidal flint axes, to the Magdalenian, along with Iron Age, Iberian and Roman remains. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Templars and was later handed over to the Monastery of Sijena by Queen Sancha of Castile. It preserves the town hall, a representative building of Aragonese civil architecture from the second half of the 16th century, and two hermitages, that of the Holy Cross and that of Santa Quiteria. During the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, on 7 October, the Dance of Sena, the village's traditional dance, is performed.
Church of Sena
Monument
Church of la Asunción de Nuestra Señora, built following the patterns of Aragonese Gothic; the municipality also preserves the hermitages of Santa Cruz (a popular 18th-century work), Santa Quiteria (19th century, with a pilgrimage on 22 May) and San Pedro, today in ruins next to a deserted settlement.
Dance of Sena
Activity
Traditional dance of Sena (Huesca), declared a Fiesta de Interés Turístico de Aragón (festival officially declared of tourist interest by the Government of Aragón). It is performed during the festivities of the Virgen del Rosario: at dawn, the dancers take part in a procession; in mid-morning they repeat it in a solemn procession together with the Ángel Custodio and the Virgen del Rosario; and at midday they perform in the main square.
