What to see and do in Laspaúles

Laspaúles
Village
Laspaúles, with 255 inhabitants, is a municipality in the comarca of Ribagorza in Huesca, with a very mountainous relief, especially to the north, watered by the Isábena river and with altitudes ranging from 1060 to 2573 metres; its capital stands at 1435. Its name comes from the Latin padule, a marshy or wetland area. It preserves the 12th-century Romanesque hermitage of Santa Paula de Turbiné, the 16th-century hermitage of San Roque, and a bridge of medieval origin known as the Puente de Suils, rebuilt in the 18th century. Laspaúles was the scene of the witchcraft trial with the most executions in Spain, twenty-four women tortured and hanged at the Rodero de San Roc; the trial manuscripts remained hidden until 1980, when they were found in the church bell tower.
