Bonansa
Village
Bonansa is a small mountain municipality of Ribagorza, in the Aragonese Pyrenees, in the upper basin of the Noguera Ribagorzana river and at about 1,250 metres above sea level; it belongs to the Ribagorçan Catalan-speaking area, within the Franja. The settlement stands by the La Mola ravine, a tributary of the Baliera, in a traditional economy of pasture and livestock farming now bolstered by tourism from the Aran, Boí, Benasque and Isábena valleys. It preserves the 18th-century parish church of Santa Coloma, the 11th-century hermitage of San Aventín, and Casa Navarri, from the 16th century, where the politician Joaquín Maurín was born. On 24 June it celebrates the falla of San Juan, part of the summer solstice fire festivals in the Pyrenees, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in 2015.
