What to see and do in Aísa

Aísa
Village
Aísa is a municipality in the Aragonese Pyrenees, in the comarca of La Jacetania, province of Huesca, next to Villanúa, with 326 inhabitants (INE 2025) divided between the village and the settlements of Candanchú, Esposa and Sinués, incorporated into the municipality in 1966 and 1972. It gives its name to the Aísa valley, carved by the Estarrún river, a tributary of the Aragón, and dominated by the peaks of the Aspe, the Llana de la Garganta and the Llana del Bozo, known as the Trilogía del Aspe, deep in the Aísa mountains. It is home to the Candanchú ski resort, the oldest in the country. The village is first mentioned in 1104, and belonged to the monastery of Santa María de la Serós until 1188, when it passed into the hands of King Alfonso II in exchange for the castle of Atarés; from 1293 it was a royal town (villa de realengo).
