What to see and do in Pazos de Borbén

Pazos de Borbén
Village
Pazos de Borbén is a rural concello in the Vigo metropolitan area, in the south of the province of Pontevedra, made up of eight parishes and with around 3,000 inhabitants. Its territory lies beneath Mount Galleiro, at 670 metres the highest point in the municipality, and its waters are divided between two basins: to the north, the Barragán and Pequeno rivers flow into the Oitavén, and to the south, the Borbén and Louro rivers flow into the Miño. The archaeological sites found in the municipality date back to between 3000 and 1800 BC, although the best-documented period is the Bronze Age, between 1800 and 600 BC. The municipality was simply called Borbén until the 1857 census, when it became known as Pazos de Borbén. Its heritage includes 18th-century Baroque churches, petroglyphs and a three-metre peto de ánimas.
Mount Galleiro
Nature
At 670 metres it is the highest point in the municipality and a balcony over the ría de Vigo and the Verdugo valley; its slopes hold petroglyphs with geometric motifs and a wolf trap that fell out of use in the late 19th century.
The canyon of the Oitavén
Nature
The river is hemmed into a rocky gorge at the edge of the concello, one of the most enclosed stretches of its course. Nearby runs the path of the fraga of the river Barragán, waymarked as PR-G 164.
The wolf trap of Moscoxo
Curiosity
A communal wolf trap formed of long converging walls that led the animal to a pit. It ceased to be used at the end of the 19th century and is one of the most legible in the surroundings of O Suído.
