What to see and do in Os Blancos

Os Blancos
Village
Os Blancos is a concello of around 700 inhabitants set at almost 800 metres of altitude and divided into seven parishes; its most notable archaeological find is the palaeo-Christian necropolis of Ouvigo, evidence of the late Roman occupation of the Limia plain. In the 2011 municipal elections there was a tie between the Partido Popular and Alternativa Popular Galega, which led to the result of a polling station being challenged and the vote repeated months later. Oral tradition preserves a folk song dedicated to the muleteers of neighbouring Calvos, warning them to be careful with their pack animals when passing through the spot known as Fontarcada.
Ouvigo early Christian necropolis
Monument
Palaeochristian funerary complex made up of a necropolis and a late Roman building, excavated at the place of Ouvigo by Antonio Rodríguez Colmenero from 1971 in campaigns that ran on until 1981; around the cemetery there was a sanctuary dedicated to San Breixo. A testimony to the early Christianisation of these high border lands, it is the most distinctive site of a concello set at almost eight hundred metres.
Church of San Breixo de Covas
Monument
The church of the hamlet of Covas, one of the seven parishes of a municipality lying at 797 metres that went from 1,270 residents in 2001 to fewer than seven hundred in 2025, a figure that sums up the demographic bleeding of A Limia.

Food and drink
The popular verses recall the concello as a stopping height for muleteers and dealers on the border road, up which came the wine, the salt and the dried fish that supplied the hamlets of the Limia mountains.
