What to see and do in Arteixo

Arteixo
Village
Arteixo is a coastal municipality of A Coruña province with about 34,000 inhabitants, part of the metropolitan area of A Coruña, thirteen kilometres from its centre. Its Atlantic coastline, from A Coruña's outer harbour to the Lourido cove, alternates open sandy beaches such as Barrañán, Valcobo and Alba with Iron Age castros. Inland, the terrain rises to 384 metres near Mount Carboeiro, watered by the Bolaños and Seixedo rivers, the latter dammed in the Rosadoiro reservoir. In the Sabón industrial estate, opened in 1965, the Inditex group, the world's leading textile manufacturer, and its subsidiary Zara have their headquarters, alongside a refinery. The name Arteixo, pre-Roman, may be related to the Artabri, the people who inhabited the area.
Spa of Arteixo
Monument
A thermal establishment built in 1760, one of only two officially recognised in the province, famous for its iodide and bromide waters, which rise at between 25 and 45 degrees and drew bathers on doctor's orders.
Beach of Barrañán
Nature
Beach open to the Atlantic and backed by a dune system, one of the six in the concello to fly the blue flag and the most frequented; it forms part of the Camiño Azul that links the beaches along the Arteixo coast. It is a straight stretch of sand with strong swell, suitable for surfing, located between the Sisalde river and the punta do Trei; the line of dunes behind it forms a small marsh after the river mouth. It has received the blue flag in various years, among them 2013 to 2018 and 2022.
Beach of as Combouzas
Nature
Praia das Combouzas, in the parish of Barrañán, in Arteixo, is one of the first nudist beaches in Galicia. Situated between the punta do Compás and the punta do Trei, which separates it from the praia de Barrañán, with which it joins at low tide, it is a straight cove with strong swell, suitable for surfing. Despite its naturist character, it has held the blue flag since 2012, a distinction rarely seen for this type of beach.
Beach of Valcobo
Nature
Sandy cove between cliffs on the coast of Arteixo, one of those that follow one another on this Atlantic front along with Barrañán and As Combouzas, already exposed to the open sea of the Golfo Ártabro.
Bolaños River
Nature
Watercourse that crosses the centre of Arteixo and flows into the Atlantic after passing next to the spa that makes use of the thermal waters of the place; its bank is laid out as a riverside walk.
