What to see and do in Turís

Turís
Village
Turís is a municipality of La Ribera Alta, in the province of Valencia, with 7,717 inhabitants (INE 2025) and a wine-growing tradition, near the Hoya de Buñol in an undulating piedmont landscape. Its name comes from the Latin turris, tower, after the Castellet, an Islamic fortress integrated into the defensive system of the Caliphate of Córdoba, which the king, after the conquest by James I, gave to Gombau de Entenza. At La Carencia, a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), the ancient Iberian city of Kili is identified, the main Edetani settlement, with notable commercial activity in Roman times. Turís was hit hard by the DANA storm of October 2024: the Mas de Calabarra station recorded 184.6 mm of rain in one hour, the highest absolute historical record in Spain, and 771.8 mm accumulated in a single day.
El Castellet de Turís
Monument
A small Arab fortress built at the beginning of the 11th century over a Bronze Age settlement, on a long hill south-west of the village, from which Turís took its name.
Fortified Ibero-Roman city of La Carencia
Monument
The fortified Ibero-Roman city of La Carencia is a site located three kilometres from Turís, in the Portell mountain range, discovered in 1887 and declared an asset of cultural interest in 2008. It covers more than eight hectares and was an Iberian city founded in the 4th century BC that survived until the 2nd century AD in Roman times, and remained occupied in Islamic times with a watchtower. Excavations documented three walls with towers built between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC to defend and lend monumentality to the settlement. Finds such as sculptures and imported Greek and Roman pottery point to a centre with a certain local aristocracy, which some researchers identify with the lost city of Kili.
Mistela and wines of the Barony of Turís
Food and drink
The vineyard is the main crop of the district and the local cooperative winery bottles reds, whites and the sweet mistela obtained by adding alcohol to unfermented must. It is the drink with which festival meals are closed in the area.
