Fortified Ibero-Roman city of La Carencia Monument · Turís, La Ribera Alta, Valencia Image of Turís, not of the place itself. The fortified Ibero-Roman city of La Carencia is a site located three kilometres from Turís, in the Portell mountain range, discovered in 1887 and declared an asset of cultural interest in 2008. It covers more than eight hectares and was an Iberian city founded in the 4th century BC that survived until the 2nd century AD in Roman times, and remained occupied in Islamic times with a watchtower. Excavations documented three walls with towers built between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC to defend and lend monumentality to the settlement. Finds such as sculptures and imported Greek and Roman pottery point to a centre with a certain local aristocracy, which some researchers identify with the lost city of Kili. época ibero-romana Photo: Roigbalterra (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Turís
