What to see and do in Santa Magdalena de Pulpis

Santa Magdalena de Pulpis
Village
Santa Magdalena de Pulpis, in Valencian Santa Magdalena de Polpís, is a municipality of the Baix Maestrat, in the province of Castellón, situated between the Sierra de Irta and other foothills of the Maestrazgo. Its origin lies in the castle of Polpís, of Arab origin; given to the Templars in 1190, it was conquered in 1233 and received a founding charter in 1287. The parish church, neoclassical and built from 1860 on an earlier temple from 1330, has a single nave with side chapels and its bell tower is topped with glazed ceramic in the Valencian baroque tradition. The municipality, with about 770 inhabitants, lives from rain-fed almond, carob and olive trees, irrigated citrus and the marble industry; it celebrates its festival on 22 July.
