What to see and do in Llimiana

Llimiana
Village
Llimiana is a municipality in the south of Pallars Jussà, on the border with La Noguera, whose village sits atop a crag at 790 metres above sea level, with views of the Montsec mountains and the Conca de Tremp. It is documented in 982 as Civitate Limignane, an unusual name that points to its early urban standing, and it soon obtained the title of vila, with rights such as that of gathering firewood on the Montsec, already documented in the 12th century. Its castle, documented since the 10th century, dominates the pass towards the Conca de Tremp and was surrounded by a wall, much of which survives. Its Romanesque parish church of Santa Maria de Llimiana, from the late 11th century and dedicated to the Virgen de la Cinta, patroness of the vila, has the largest Romanesque apses in Catalonia.
