What to see and do in Santa Susanna

Santa Susanna
Village
Santa Susanna is a coastal town in the northern Maresme, in the province of Barcelona, with a long tourist beach, located between the towns of Pineda de Mar and Malgrat de Mar, 58 kilometres from Barcelona. It has 4,099 inhabitants; in the mid-19th century it had barely 519. The Santa Susanna stream runs through the town, which sits next to the first rises of the Montnegre massif. Its present economy revolves around sun-and-beach tourism, with family and sports tourism awards, a nautical station and a mountain-bike centre, a good starting point for excursions to the Costa Brava. Its coat of arms, approved in 1987, bears a six-pointed star, the town's traditional emblem.
Church of Santa Susanna
Monument
The parish church of Santa Susanna, in the Maresme (Barcelona), was built during the postwar period through the effort of all the local residents, who contributed much of the labour free of charge. Its most notable feature is the mural paintings of the presbytery, the work of Aurelio Crosiet, a disciple of Josep Maria Sert and a specialist in decorating large spaces with the gold-leaf technique. The composition depicts the martyrdom of Santa Susanna on one side and a vision of her arrival in heaven on the other, while the dome shows clouds with an evangelist in each corner.
