What to see and do in Torrelles de Foix

Torrelles de Foix
Village
Torrelles de Foix is a municipality in the eastern sector of the Alt Penedès, in the province of Barcelona, with 2,746 inhabitants and situated at an altitude of 367 metres, crossed by the Foix river and by its tributary the Pontons stream. The place belonged to the territory of the castle of Foix, already documented in 1067, which passed through various medieval lords until Bernat Galceran de Pinós i de Fenollet bought it in 1388. At the end of the 15th century it passed to the Peguera family, and in 1710 Archduke Charles of Austria granted Guerau de Peguera the title of first Marquis of Foix, making the castle the seat of the marquisate. The lineage died out in 1881 with María Manuela de Peguera, who left her estate to the Salesian Sisters.
