What to see and do in Almazul

Almazul
Village
Almazul is a municipality in the province of Soria, in the comarca of Campo de Gómara, which also includes the settlements of Mazaterón, incorporated in 1966, and Zárabes, incorporated in 1857. Its name comes from the Arabic al-mahsul, referring to the spring that rises beneath the village square. It has 61 inhabitants and lies at an altitude of 981 metres. On a hill overlooking the right bank of the río Henar stands the medieval tower of Algarbe, listed as a protected castle since 1949. In the Early Modern period it was part of the sexmo of Arciel, within the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Soria. It celebrates its main festival in honour of the Virgen de la Blanca on 27 May, and its most popular one, in honour of San Roque, from 15 to 19 August.
