Sanchonuño
Village
Sanchonuño is a municipality of around 1,050 inhabitants in the province of Segovia, located on the northern plateau about 9 km south of Cuéllar, whose Community of Town and Land it was part of, in the Sexmo of Navalmanzano. It owes its name to the resettler Sancho Nuño and appears documented in 1247; near the village, at Pago de las Cotarras, remains have been found from the Bronze Age and from a Visigothic settlement. Its economy, traditionally agricultural, is today based on a strong irrigated fruit and vegetable industry, with companies that package and prepare crops such as endive, carrot, maize and beet for sale. Its Renaissance church of Santo Tomás holds a Mannerist altarpiece.
