What to see and do in Villaluenga de la Vega

Villaluenga de la Vega
Village
Villaluenga de la Vega is a municipality in the comarca of Vega-Valdavia, in the province of Palencia, at 916 metres above sea level, which groups together four villages and has around 520 inhabitants. Its origins go back to the resettlement of the mid-9th or early 10th century, near Saldaña, and within its territory lie medieval deserted villages, among them Villa Almildo, with its hermitage of Santa Marina, and another dedicated to San Román, where until the 1930s a pilgrimage was held on 24 March. In the mid-19th century, according to Pascual Madoz, it had barely 144 souls spread across 24 houses given over to growing rye, wheat and oats. It preserves the church of San Martín de Tours, from the 16th century, and houses a curious museum of the history of radio.
Church of San Martín de Tours de Villaluenga
Monument
A church built in brick in the sixteenth century that preserves an altarpiece and a notable seventeenth-century Baroque carving; it presides over a municipality that also brings together Barrios de la Vega, Quintanadiez and Santa Olaja.
Museum of Historia de la Radio
Monument
This museum, one of the few in Spain devoted entirely to the history of radio and communications, aims to raise the profile of Villaluenga de la Vega, this village of the Carrión valley set among bell towers and poplar groves of the Valdavia. Visits are arranged in advance with the town hall, since it has no fixed opening hours, and the town also offers rural tourism accommodation and dining for those who come to see it.

Nature
The irrigation channels, some possibly of medieval design, maintain in the municipal district a riverside vegetation of poplars, willows and elms that provides refuge for numerous species in the middle of dry cereal country.
