What to see and do in Soto y Amío

Soto y Amío
Village
Soto y Amío is a municipality in the province of León, straddling the comarcas of Omaña —which includes Camposalinas, Carrizal, Irián, Lago de Omaña, Soto y Amío, Villaceid and Villayuste— and Luna —with Bobia, Canales, Garaño, La Magdalena and Quintanilla. The seat of the town council is Soto y Amío, although most of the population lives in Canales-La Magdalena, the most populous of its twelve villages. The municipality, with about 705 inhabitants at 1,048 metres of altitude, is well connected by road: it is crossed by the Ruta de la Plata motorway, with a toll access at Canales-La Magdalena, and it is also crossed by the CL-626, which links the Cerredo pass with Aguilar de Campoo, and the LE-460, between Torre del Bierzo and the CL-623.
Land transfer to Santa María de Ordás
Historical milestone
Between 1920 and 1930 the municipality of Soto y Amío ceded part of its municipal district to neighbouring Santa María de Ordás, one of the last adjustments to the councils of the León mountains before the depopulation of the twentieth century.
Canales-La Magdalena, between Omaña and Luna
Curiosity
The municipality is one of the few in León divided between two historic comarcas, Omaña and Luna; its largest centre, Canales-La Magdalena, concentrates the population thanks to the Ruta de la Plata motorway junction.
