What to see and do in Carrocera

Carrocera
Village
Carrocera is a municipality in the province of León, in the traditional comarca of Valdeviñayo, with about 435 inhabitants spread across seven villages, among them Benllera, Cuevas de Viñayo, Piedrasecha, Santiago de las Villas, Viñayo and Otero de las Dueñas, in addition to Carrocera itself, the municipal capital at 1,049 metres of altitude. The closure of the mines took away its main economic activity. The municipality is well connected by road: it is crossed by the Ruta de la Plata motorway, with a toll access next to Otero de las Dueñas, and by the CL-626 road, which links the Cerredo pass with Aguilar de Campoo giving access to the Leonese mountains, from which the CL-623 branches off toward the capital, much used as a free alternative to the motorway.
Piedrasecha, Rural Village of Castilla y León
Curiosity
With barely a score of residents, Piedrasecha holds the title of Rural Village of Castilla y León for the preservation of its stone houses right at the foot of the outliers of the Cantabrian range.
