What to see and do in Matadeón de los Oteros

Matadeón de los Oteros
Village
Matadeón de los Oteros is a municipality of about 210 inhabitants set at 856 metres on the hills of Los Oteros, in the León countryside, and also groups together the settlements of Fontanil, San Pedro and Santa María de los Oteros. Its patronal festivities, formerly held in early September and now taking place on the last weekend of August, draw visitors from across the region for four days. They open with the Chuletada, a large neighbourhood barbecue at Las Escuelas, and during the early hours of Friday the Pasacalles is held; on Saturday the floats that residents decorate and haul by tractor to the frontón are paraded, where the winner is chosen. The festivities end with a chocolatada that also bids farewell to summer.
The street parade and float procession of Matadeón
