What to see and do in Cubillas de los Oteros

Cubillas de los Oteros
Village
Cubillas de los Oteros is a municipality of about 140 inhabitants formed by Cubillas and Gigosos de los Oteros, in the Leonese comarca of Los Oteros, 37 kilometres from the capital and 10 from Valencia de Don Juan. Its origin dates back to pre-Roman times, when the settlement was fixed with a castro raised on a promontory near the old schools. The church is its best-known monument, along with the remains of an old hermitage found recently, and the village preserves a distillery that produces orujos and wines typical of the area. It celebrates the festivities of San Pedro and those of its patron, San Esteban, on 26 December.

Nature
A fortification raised on a promontory beside the village's old schools, on which a population that until then had lived in intermittent settlements on the rises of the Oteros finally settled for good.
