What to see and do in San Pedro Bercianos

San Pedro Bercianos
Village
San Pedro Bercianos is a village in the Páramo Leonés comarca, with about 220 inhabitants, at 823 metres above sea level, which includes La Mata del Páramo. A place of passage between La Bañeza, Santa María del Páramo and León, it arose from the Mozarabic resettlement that took place in the Kingdom of León between the 9th and 10th centuries, possibly as part of a defensive line along the Páramo plain; its name alludes, on one hand, to the patronage of San Pedro and, on the other, to settlers who arrived from El Bierzo in the context of the Reconquista. In 1135 it was granted to the monastery of Santa María de Carrizo, on which it depended for centuries. Its only natural watercourse is the Valdelapuerca stream.
Mozarabic resettlement of San Pedro Bercianos
Historical milestone
San Pedro Bercianos arose from the Mozarab repopulation of the Kingdom of León; both the sister entry and Wikipedia place in 1135 the donation of the town to the Monasterio de Santa María de Carrizo by a King Fernando II of León, an attribution that is chronologically problematic, since that monarch was born in 1137 and did not reign until 1157.
