Iglesias
Village
Iglesias is a municipality of 136 inhabitants in the comarca of Odra-Pisuerga (Burgos), located in the west-central part of the province, in the valley of the Penilla stream, at 844 metres above sea level. Its name is a speaking toponym that recalls the many places of worship the area once had: it came to have up to five hermitages, two churches and the San Bol monastery-hostel, beside the Camino de Santiago, on account of which Unesco included Iglesias in 2015 among the elements associated with the French Way in its extension to World Heritage status. Its parish of San Martín Obispo is Renaissance in style, with three naves.
