What to see and do in Ibrillos

Ibrillos
Village
Ibrillos is a hamlet of Burgos with 30 inhabitants, in the comarca of Montes de Oca, whose hill, today crowned by the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Peña, once held a fortress disputed between Muslims and Christians, of particular importance in the late 9th century. It formed part of a defensive line running from Cerezo de Río Tirón to Pazuengos, passing through Ibrillos, the Torre de Villaorceros and Mirabel, on the hill of Grañón, which held back the attacks between the two sides; the Muslims never managed to control the mountains south of that line. Formed into a municipality after the fall of the Ancien Régime, in the district of Belorado, it then had 106 inhabitants. It is the birthplace of Alfonso Murillo Villar, rector of the University of Burgos between 2008 and 2016.
