What to see and do in Valluércanes

Valluércanes
Village
Valluércanes is a village and municipality of the province of Burgos, in the Valle del Ebro comarca, located to the east of la Bureba, in the corridor opened by the río Arto, between La Bureba and La Rioja, with 70 inhabitants. It belonged to the Cuadrilla de Quintanilla de San García, one of the seven into which the old Merindad de Bureba was divided, under crown jurisdiction with a local magistrate. It preserves the Renaissance church of San Pedro, the Gothic ruins of Santa María and remains of the castle that Alfonso VIII granted in 1172 to the church of Santo Domingo de la Calzada.

Monument
The parish church of a town of seventy inhabitants set at 732 metres on terrain described as rugged; the municipality also preserves traces of several vanished hermitages scattered across its municipal district.
The wooden bridges over the Arto river
Curiosity
The river Arto splits the village of Valluércanes in two and until recent times six wooden bridges stitched it together, a humble and repeated solution that defined the appearance of this village at the southern end of the Ebro comarca.
