Cubillo del Campo
Village
Cubillo del Campo is a municipality of 103 inhabitants in the Alfoz de Burgos comarca, 24 kilometres from the capital, on the road -today the N-234- linking Burgos with Soria. It sits on a plateau cut by the río de las Canteras, at altitudes between 970 and 1139 metres. Its quarries supplied stone for Burgos Cathedral and for other monuments of the capital, such as the castle, the Arco de Santa María, the Casa del Cordón and the monastery of San Pedro de Arlanza, as well as the cathedrals of León and Vitoria. Historically devoted to farming, livestock and stone quarrying, it is today crossed by hiking routes such as the Ruta del Buen Conde and the Ruta del Cid. Its patron saint is Santa Marina, carried in procession on shoulders every 18 July.
