Sanchidrián
Village
Sanchidrián is a town of about 720 inhabitants in Ávila province, in the comarca of La Moraña, beside the N-VI and with its own exit on the AP-6 motorway, on the banks of the Voltoya river. The family of the Renaissance composer Tomás Luis de Victoria had a house here, and some consider the town his birthplace; his elder brother, Hernán Luis de Vitoria, is buried in its parish church, which also preserves a pulpit carved in 1612 by the sculptor Diego González de Montemayor. The railway line between Ávila and Valladolid, which passes through the town, was completed in 1863. On 1 May it celebrates the Cristo de las Rosquillas, in honour of the Santísimo Cristo de la Vera Cruz, and in August, for San Roque, its peñas parade with floats.
